Born in Montreal in 1943, Édouard Lachapelle became known and appreciated, from the 1970s, as a painter, engraver, muralist, first in Quebec and then abroad (Switzerland, France, United States, Spain, Argentina).

He has presented his solo works numerous times in Montreal and Quebec, in Ottawa and Toronto as well as in Paris, Washington, and Buenos Aires. After being presented in France in 1978-79, his works were part of a traveling exhibition first to Spain then to Argentina (1982-1984) thanks to the Ministry of External Affairs of Canada.

Works by Édouard Lachapelle can be found in several private and public collections among them the Museum of Naive Art in Paris (Max Fourny collection), the National Museum of Fine Arts in Quebec, the Museum of Fine Arts in Sherbrooke, the National Library of the Swiss Confederation in Bern and the National Library of Quebec.
